#TyalbrookTuesday

I'm slowly working on book three of The Prophecy of Tyalbrook. The story continues to develop and go in directions that both surprise and, sometimes, infuriate me. I appreciate your patience with me as I work to make the next chapter of Skye and Xander's story perfect.

I rubbed the back of my neck as I entered castle grounds. A group of children played in the small clearing of the outer bailey inside the gates. Their shouts of laughter ricocheted off the high stone walls surrounding them, filling the air with joy.

“What is this? A Guardian with a smile?”

I nodded a silent greeting as Emeline joined me, ignoring her comment. “Do you know where Skye is?” I asked as my eyes continued to track the children. In the center a young boy wearing a hood turned in circles, his arms outstretched as he attempted to catch his friends. A simple childhood game of blind man's tag.

“The children are all orphans,” Emeline said and my smile wavered. “When Skye learned of the children’s home in the village she invited them here for a feast. Now they join us two days a week. We feed them and mend their clothing. We attempt to bring joy to their lives.”

“And it looks to be working.” The children appear happy, their faces and clothing cleaner than many of the village children I’d seen loitering around the training field today.

“She can be a magnificent Queen, Xander.”

My eyes snapped to her pale head, turned away from me. “I’ve never doubted that,” I told her tightly.

After a moment she met my gaze, her eye's challenging mine. Her fingers grasped her skirts as she prepared to leave. “Don’t make her doubt it,” she said,

her voice as tight as mine.

Apparently I'd upset her today as well.

As she walked away her hand lifted toward the wall walk and she called over her shoulder, “you’ll find her up there.”

#TuesdayTease Into The Fire

In case you missed the dancing and shouting over on Facebook this weekend, I finished Into The Fire!! I'm reading through it now and making sure it's perfect, then I'll be sending it over to my editor.

So, some ITF facts:

  • It's a standalone. So NO cliffhangers here!
  • Although it's based off a character you meet in another series,  you do NOT have to read that first to enjoy this story
  • West and Jules (From The Wreckage series) do make appearances
  • It spans several years so it's considered a young adult/new adult crossover
  • It's a PG-13 read
  • When complete it will be roughly 90,000 words. That's 20k more than any of the From The Wreckage books
  • This is Dani's story. Her life. Her destination...

Keep an eye out for the cover and iBooks pre-order links on Thursday 2.19.15

#TuesdayTease - Into The Fire

Exciting news! I have a cover and a blurb for 'Into The Fire' so I'll be sharing that very very soon. I'll also try and set a release date very soon.
Until then here's a little tease...

‘Dani’
All the way home I stare at my name scribbled in familiar chicken scratch across the pale purple envelope. No one has called me Dani in a year. It was his nickname for me. Jonah. He started it when we were just kids…
A memory from grade school flashes before me - a crowded table at lunch and a gorgeous blond-haired boy frowning because he accidentally called me Dani in front of a bunch of boys in our class.

“Dani? Oooooo,” the crowd teases, and Jonah’s cheeks turn crimson as he lowers his head. Giggles follow as one of the girls seated near me leans over, her lips forming a perfect ‘O’ before she asks, “Are you and Jonah boyfriend and girlfriend now?”
“Ewww, no! He’s like my brother,” I protest, and more giggles fill our table.
“Boys are so stupid,” says Julia, a stuck up little thing who always wants to be the center of attention. "Plus, Dani is a boy’s name."
Now it's my turn to frown.
“It's a nickname, and I like it,” I argue back, perhaps a little too forcefully, and Jonah lifts his head, a lopsided grin on his face. We hold each other’s gaze as though we’re sharing a secret.

Perhaps we were sharing a secret back then. Our tight-knit bond was never understood by our friends, especially not at the age when they all thought members of the opposite sex had cooties. The memory makes my heart hurt. After that day, friends slowly began calling me Dani. It stuck, but it was always Jonah’s first.
